Currently, the periodic table is organized and subdivided into four blocks depending on the last orbital of the electronic configuration. These blocks are called:

• Block s: in these elements the most external energy level corresponds to orbitals s
• Block p: in these elements the most external energy level corresponds to orbitals p
• Block d: in these elements the most external energy level corresponds to orbitals d
• Block f: they have two electrons s in their outermost energy levels (n) and electrons f in innermost levels (n-2). Some also have d electrons at intermediate levels (n-1).

The periodic table of the elements is the way proposed by Dmitri Mendeléyev in 1869 to arrange the chemical elements, which are ordered by their atomic number, their electron configuration and their chemical properties. Since its first appearance, this table has been increasing with the discovery of new chemical elements, some present in nature and others originated by man.
